Support

Bugs, feature requests and questions all go to the same place — the project's issue tracker.

Found a bug? Open an issue. The form comes pre-filled with the questions that are otherwise asked in the first reply.

aria.fm is maintained by one person, in the open. There is no support inbox and no ticket queue — an issue on the tracker is the fastest route, and it means the next person hitting the same thing can find it.

Opening an issue needs a GitLab account, which is free.

1What to include

The bug form asks for all of this, so you can skip ahead and just fill it in. It is listed here because these four are what decide whether a report can be acted on or only acknowledged.

  • The version. In the app: Settings ▸ About.
  • How you installed it. Flathub, the AUR, the Fedora COPR, the apt repository, the AppImage, the tarball, or a build of your own — the packaging differs enough that this narrows most reports immediately.
  • Your desktop and audio server. For example GNOME on Wayland with PipeWire. Playback and media-key problems are usually specific to one combination.
  • The terminal output. Run flatpak run fm.aria.Client, or start aria.fm from a terminal, and paste what it prints. Most sign-in, playback and media-key failures name their cause there.

Before pasting logs, remove any line containing an access token or a refresh token — those grant access to your Spotify account.

2Security and privacy reports

If the problem involves your account, your tokens, or anything you would rather not post in public, open the issue as confidential. It stays visible only to the maintainer.

3Before you file

Two things account for a good share of reports, and both have answers rather than fixes:

  • Playback needs Spotify Premium. aria.fm plays through librespot, which Spotify only permits for Premium accounts. On a free account, sign-in succeeds and playback does not.
  • aria.fm is not made by Spotify. It is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Spotify. Problems with your subscription, billing or account itself have to go to Spotify — nothing here can reach them.
